Testing & Tagging

Perth Testing and Tagging specialise in the safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment, RCD Testing, Microwave Leakage Testing and Thermography, we can offer our services nationally.

We only use the latest technology to test fully to the AS/NZS3760:2003 standards. Under the new 2003 standard, leakage testing is now mandatory if the equipment has an electronic switch. Therefore all our portable appliance testers are designed to test beyond the switch, thereby fully meeting the latest standard.

Our equipment automatically logs every test and stores the information to be later downloaded onto a computer database. The information is stored by us for the required 7 years and the customer will receive a hard copy. The database is fully accessible to the customer at any time. This efficient database allows us to contact the customer prior to the next due test date. This ensures the appliance is never out of test which takes away the worry from the customer.

We offer a completely professional competitive service which is fully compliant with the latest testing standards.

Microwave Leakage Testing

Australian and New Zealand Standards AS/NZ 3350 / Guidelines

Perth Testing and Tagging conducts microwave radiation leakage tests in the workplace to the above standard using specialized testing equipment that is correctly calibrated and meets the Australian Standard.

Domestic radiation testers do not meet the standard.

Radiation leakage from a microwave oven often occurs through the doors and seals and is invisible. These harmful radiation leakages can cause harm to user’s health.

The Australian Standard states “The microwave leakage at any point 50mm or more from the external surface of the appliance shall not exceed 50W/m2 (5mW/cm2).”
AS/NZ 60335.2.25 ( AS/NZ 3350.2.25) - Australian and New Zealand Standard

The Australian Standard relates to exposure to sufficiently high levels of microwaves will cause heating. In the case of human tissue, excessive heating could have serious health effects, such as deep tissue burns and hypothermia. The purpose of the Australian Standards is to avoid all adverse health effects by limiting exposure levels to levels below those at which heating occurs. The Standard applies to microwave ovens designed for domestic applications, even if used in a workplace.

The standard says “… microwave ovens used in workplace staff rooms are not excluded from the test approvals process and should be marked with an approvals identification signifying compliance with AS/NZS 3350.2.25:1997”

Employers have a ‘Duty of Care’ to ensure their workplace is safe and as such Perth Testing and Tagging recommends and conducts the testing of microwave ovens in the workplace annually as a minimum standard.
